The Gambia Committed to Implement WAPIS Programme

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Seyaka Sonko and his Defense counterpart, Brigadier General (Rtd) Sering Modou Njie recently presided over the 2nd meeting of the National Steering Committee for the West African Police Information System (WAPIS) at the Interior Ministry’s complex in Kotu.
The Committee members assessed the status of the implementation of WAPIS-Data Collection and Registration Centre (DACORE) programme and identify strategic remedies to enhance its national execution.
It is noteworthy that on the 14th October, 2021, The Gambia Government through the Ministry of Interior (MOI) collaborated with the Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS), the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and the European Union (EU) to inaugurate the West African Police Information System Data Collection and Registration Centre (WAPIS -DACORE) in the country. This programme aims at strengthening the capacity of the West African Law enforcement authorities in combating transnational crimes and terrorism through enhanced police information management and sharing.
Participants at the Steering Committee meeting include, the ECOWAS Coordinator, Mr. Mohamed Yansaneh, the representatives of the Ambassador of the European Union (EU), Mr. Raphael BRIGANDI and Ms. Enya BRAUN and Focal Person for WAPIS Programme, Commissioner Pateh Bah and other relevant stakeholders.
