
EDUCATION
Ansumana Manneh began his career with the Gambia Prison Service in 1988 and has since undertaken extensive professional training in correctional administration, security management, and human rights. From April 2002 to April 2003, he attended the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI), where he completed Instructor Training in Child Management and Protection. He further enhanced his expertise by completing a Child Protection Professional Course in London, organized by Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), with a focus on juvenile rehabilitation and child protection. Over the course of his career, he has participated in numerous additional professional development programs aimed at promoting modern correctional practices and strengthening respect for human rights within the prison system.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Mr. Manneh has served the Gambia Prison Service for over three decades in various senior leadership roles. He served as Commissioner of the Juvenile Wing from 2003 to 2010, where he oversaw education, vocational training, and reintegration programs for young offenders. From 2010 to 2015, he held the position of Commissioner of Administration, with responsibility for human resource management and organizational development. He was later redeployed to the Ministry of Interior as a Staff Officer before being appointed Director General of the Gambia Prison Service in February 2017. In this role, he has led key reforms to professionalize the service, improve detention conditions, and expand rehabilitation initiatives.
Mr. Manneh also contributed to international peacekeeping efforts in Sudan, serving under both the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) and the African Union–United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).

Mr. Manneh has completed numerous professional courses in prison management, human rights, and security administration. He is widely recognized for his leadership in advancing institutional reforms within the Gambia Prison Service and for strengthening collaboration with international partners committed to humane correctional systems and effective rehabilitation programs.
